2020 Single Day Showdown Rules and Registration Information
By clicking on the registration link below, I acknowledge that I have read and agree to the above rules.

Registration has closed.
PLEASE READ THE RULES THOROUGHLY, ESPECIALLY THE COVID WAIVER, AND THEN CLICK THE REGISTRATION BUTTON AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE.
FORMAT: Each division of play will consist of multiple rounds of 40-minute timed matches, played within a 3.5-hour block of time with rest time included. The winner of each match will be determined by the person with the most games at the end of that 40-minute period as described further below. You will keep playing win or lose. The draws will be in either compass draw or round-robin format, depending on the number of entrants.

ENTRY FEE: $30 ($25 for AAACTA members). Deadline: August 7. This year, we are donating a percentage of the entry fee to Food Gatherers! If we are forced to limit entries due to court availability limitations, then priority will be given to AAACTA Members, Washtenaw County residents, and those who enroll the earliest. Entry fees will be refunded if we have to cancel the event due to rain or worsening Covid conditions.

DIVISIONS: The tournament is divided into the following divisions according to USTA (NTRP) ratings: Men and Women 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5+. The women's events and Men's 3.0 will play Saturday; the rest of the men's events will be on Sunday.

Please sign up for the division that you intend to play. We may need to consolidate divisions if the numbers require.
AGE, RESIDENCY, & MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
Age: All players must be at least 18 by the end of the calendar year.
Residency: Players must be Washtenaw County residents unless you become an AAACTA member.
Membership: We encourage all players to join AAACTA to show support for local tennis and to take advantage of the discounted entry fee for members.

MATCH SCHEDULING: All players should report to Huron High School on the designated play date 15 minutes before the start time. You will receive your first-round court assignment a few days before the event; please report directly to that court and someone will check you in from there. Plan on playing for the entire 3.5-hour block win or lose (although there will be rest times built into the schedule). All players will get a 10-minute warmup before their first match.

MATCH PLAY: All rounds will be 40 minutes. The director will tell players when to start. At the end of the round, the director will tell players to complete the game they are in with no ad scoring (i.e., when the score is deuce, you play one more point to determine the winner of the game; the receiver gets to choose which side to return from). If there is a tie in total games, the players will spin a racquet to determine serve/side and will play one point to decide the match winner. At the end of each match, a tournament worker will gather scores and tell players which court to go to next. Leave the provided balls on the court.

RAIN POLICY: We do not have indoor backup if it rains. Unless indicated otherwise on the AAACTA Facebook page, please come to Huron HS rain or shine as we will do our best to get the event played. We will offer refunds if we cannot get at least 2 rounds of play completed.

TENNIS BALLS: AAACTA will provide every court with a new can of USTA-approved balls. If you do not feel comfortable sharing balls, please bring your own can to serve with exclusively.

SOCIAL DISTANCING EXPECTATIONS: We want to make this event safe for everyone. Please abide by the following expectations:

  • Bring plenty of water as we cannot provide water.
  • There will be one Port-a-Potty on site with hand sanitizer, but you should consider limiting its use.
  • We will have hand sanitizer on the courts, but you are encouraged to bring your own and use it often.
  • If someone brings their own balls, please respect that and do not touch their balls. You will serve with the balls provided and they will serve with their own balls.
  • Return balls from another court using your racquet or foot (not your hands).
  • Set your equipment on the opposite end of the net from your opponent.
  • There will not be score cards. If you have trouble keeping track of the score during matches, it might be helpful to bring pencil and paper to keep a running tally of games.
  • Masks are recommended when you are not on the courts.

QUESTIONS: If you have questions prior to the tournament, email our registration guru Dan Fisher.

ASSUMPTION OF THE RISK AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY RELATING TO COVID-19
The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. As a result, federal, state, and local governments and federal and state health agencies recommend social distancing and have, in many locations, prohibited the congregation of groups of people.

AAACTA has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19; however, AAACTA cannot guarantee that you will not become infected with COVID-19. Further, attending this event could increase your risk of contracting COVID-19.

COVID WAIVER: I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that I may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by attending this event and that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and death. I understand that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 at this event may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of myself and others, including, but not limited to, AAACTA volunteers and event participants and their families.

I voluntarily agree to assume all of the foregoing risks and accept sole responsibility for any injury to myself (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability, or expense, of any kind, that I may experience or incur in connection with my attendance at this event (“Claims”). On my behalf, I hereby release, covenant not to sue, discharge, and hold harmless AAACTA, its volunteers, agents, and representatives, of and from the Claims, including all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs or expenses of any kind arising out of or relating thereto. I understand and agree that this release includes any Claims based on the actions, omissions, or negligence of AAACTA, its volunteers, agents, and representatives, whether a COVID-19 infection occurs before, during, or after participation in this event.

PHOTO WAIVER: I grant permission to AAACTA to use any photos or videos taken during the tournament for display on the AAACTA website and for legitimate marketing or promotional purposes.
